Products Description

Conductor

2 Class 2 tinned copper conductor. Tinning slows down oxidation, so the conductor holds up better than bare copper in damp, salt-heavy, or long-term buried conditions.

Insulation and Sheath

XLPE insulation, with PVC/ST2 bedding and outer sheath - a standard, well-proven combination for medium-voltage distribution work.

Armor and Earthing

Galvanized steel wire armor with a galvanized steel tape counter helix, plus a copper earth wire woven into the armor layer. On a ground fault, that earth wire gives current a low-impedance path back to source, which speeds up fault clearance and lowers touch-voltage risk on site.

Rated Voltage and Temperature

AC 0.6/1kV, rated for -15°C to 90°C operation, covering most industrial and outdoor conditions.

Installation Note

Minimum bending radius is 12 times the cable's outer diameter - worth factoring into conduit or trench layout before ordering.

Where It's Used

Coastal substations and port facilities, where salt exposure shortens the service life of unprotected conductors. Direct-buried distribution runs, where the armor resists damage from soil movement and rodents. Sites with strict earthing requirements, where the built-in earth wire simplifies compliance without adding a separate conductor.

Why Source This From Us

Each reel is tested against the voltage withstand and resistance figures in the spec sheet before shipping, with test reports kept on file per batch. If your project needs a different core count, conductor size, or armor type, we requote from our own factory rather than reselling fixed stock, usually within 2 working days.

FAQs

Q: Can this cable be direct buried without additional ducting?

A: Yes. The steel wire armor is rated for direct burial. Standard practice is still to lay it on a sand bed with warning tape above, per local code.

Q: Is the earth wire sized the same as the phase conductors?

A: No - the copper earth wire is sized separately per fault current requirements, not matched 1:1 to the phase conductor size. Confirm the fault rating with us if your site has specific short-circuit protection needs.

Q: What's the difference between this and standard SWA cable without an earth wire?

A: Standard SWA uses the armor itself as the earth path, which works but has higher impedance. The added copper earth wire here gives a dedicated low-impedance path, useful where fault clearance time is tightly regulated.
