Products Description
Armor and Mechanical Protection
Low Voltage Armored Cable
Armored Construction for Added Mechanical Protection
Armor is what sets this cable apart from a standard power cable. A layer of steel wire or steel tape sits between the insulation and the outer sheath, helping protect the cable against external mechanical forces such as crushing, impact, dragging during installation, and rodent damage.
The cable does not have to be installed underground for armor to be useful. Wherever the installation is exposed to mechanical risk, the armored layer provides additional protection for the cable core.
SWA and STA Armor Options
The type of armor can be selected according to the installation conditions and mechanical requirements.
- Steel Wire Armor (SWA) - provides good tensile strength and is suitable for applications involving vertical runs, pulling forces, or movement during installation.
- Steel Tape Armor (STA) - provides stronger resistance to radial crushing and is commonly used where protection against external pressure is the main concern.
Conductor, Insulation and Sheath Options
The cable can be configured with different materials depending on the electrical and environmental requirements of the project.
- Conductor: Copper
- Insulation: XLPE or PVC, depending on load and temperature requirements
- Sheath: PVC as standard; LSZH available for projects where low smoke and halogen-restricted materials are required
Typical Applications
Low voltage armored cables are commonly selected for installations where the cable may be exposed to physical damage or mechanical stress.
- Plant floors and site areas where equipment or vehicle traffic is close to the cable route
- Cable trays and tunnels where additional mechanical protection is required
- Temporary power runs that are moved, handled, or dragged repeatedly
- Low-voltage circuits where mechanical strength is an important part of the cable specification
- Direct-buried installations where additional protection against crushing and rodents is required
Direct Burial Applications
Armored construction gives the cable a useful level of resistance to crushing and rodent damage, making it suitable for certain direct-burial applications.
For underground installations where long-term exposure to moisture and corrosion is the main concern, however, cable construction should be selected according to the actual soil and environmental conditions. Huayu also provides low voltage underground cable options with sheath structures designed specifically for underground use.
Cable Selection Based on Installation Conditions
The right armored cable is not determined by voltage alone. Armor type, conductor, insulation, sheath material, installation method, mechanical load, temperature, and applicable standards all need to be considered together.
For a specific project, Huayu can review the installation conditions and technical requirements with the customer before confirming the cable construction.
